Formerly known as Burma, Myanmar is a magnificent, off-the-beaten-path destination, boasting beautiful Buddha statues clad in gold leaf, historic and well preserved temples, and some of the world’s most hospitable people. Let us show you on this 10-day vacation. Monograms makes it easy for you to venture through Myanmar because we have taken care of your hotel accommodations, transportation, private guided sightseeing, and daily breakfast (plus four lunches and three dinners). You’ll also have access to a Local Host®, who can provide suggestions about what to see and do during your stay.

Your vacation begins when you arrive in Yangon. We can arrange transfers from the airport to your hotel, where your Local Host will greet you with a warm welcome and a set of materials to help familiarize you with the city. The next morning, after included breakfast, set off on a walking tour of the city’s famous landmarks, including High Court, City Hall and Sule Pagoda. Along the way you will stop for a cup of tea with the locals. Visit the Reclining Buddha before continuing on to the Shwedagon Pagoda, a national symbol of Myanmar, as the sun sets.

Next, after a quick flight to Mandalay, visit Kuthodaw Pagoda and Shwenandaw Monastery, the only remnant of the formed “Golden City” to survive WWII bombings. You will also visit a tapestry and woodcarving workshop and watch the artisans at work, and stop at a gold leaf workshop to see how it is made. Next, visit the Mahamuni Pagoda, the most admired shrine in Myanmar and home to an impressive gold leaf Buddha. It is estimated that approximately six inches of gold has been added to the Buddha through the centuries. Later, you will travel to nearby Amarapura to see the U Bein Bridge, crafted from teakwood from the old royal palace. Take a Sampan ride on the lake at sunset for the best views of the remarkable bridge.

Another short flight brings you to Bagan, the capital of Myanmar from the 9th to 13th centuries. At its height as capital it is estimated that 13,000 temples were built in the surrounding plains. Today, around 2,300 remain, making this one of the world’s greatest archaeological sites. After enjoying your included breakfast, you will visit a local textile market, one of the country’s most sacred shrines, the Shwezigon Pagoda. In the afternoon, your time is spent exploring the Bagan Archaeological Zone, where the best preserved monument, Dhammayangyi, still stands. You’ll also visit Sulamani Temple and Ananda Temple, considered to be the most beautiful temple in the area.

Then, you will head to Heho, the gateway to Inle Lake, where you will spend two nights at a lakeside resort. You will learn about the famous one-legged rowing technique used to fish and tend to floating gardens, admire the stilted houses that line the shore, visit a silversmith workshop and a cheroot workshop where young girls roll cigars. Your trip concludes with a final night in Yangon.

With Monograms, the beauty of this “Golden Land” isn’t out of reach. Actually, it’s easy, because we take care of the details for you! All you have to do is pack your bags and prepare for a life-changing experience.
